This is a Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Rifle. It's a single shot 45-70 with a 32.5” barrel, 52” length overall, and includes the bayonet. This is another item from our Grandfather’s collection and has been in the family for at least 100+ years. The rifle appears to be all original, has been cared for, and is in the desired condition for a rifle of this age. There are no cracks, splits, or wood missing and absolutely no rust. The trigger/firing mechanism all appear to also be in good working order. The rifle also has "N.J.", “48M”, “M48”, and M engraved (see pics). Digital close up photos tend to amplify minor imperfections - however overall it's in good shape. This is an earlier serial number #31432 indicating a manufacture date of 1874 - so it just turned 140 years old! The bayonet has "U.S." engraved and is in excellent condition.
