SPRINGFIELD 1879 US TRAPDOOR RIFLE
Description: 32-5/8 inch barrel chambered in 45-70. Buffington rear sight. Strong case colors on the breechblock. Very good bore. Most original barrel blue remains. Stock is in good condition with sharp 1884 cartouche. Some added finish over handling mars on the wood. A good looking example of the Model 1879. This is a U.S. Springfield Model 1879 (1873/1879) Trapdoor Rifle Essentially a Model 1873 with 1879 improvements. These guns are found in the 100,000 to 280,000 serial number range.
