Springfield 1884 Trapdoor Rifle Originally Issued to Georgia Vol Infantry
Description: Serial #418158, .45-70 Gov’t., 32 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a great looking rifle that has an overall very well-done old reapplied blue finish on the barrel, lock, and Buffington rear sight. The receiver has a matching blued finish, with some areas of mild freckling and surface oxidation present, while the "1873" dated, low arch breechblock has much of the original color case-hardened finish remaining. The walnut stock has numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the thick, added military oil finish, and faint traces of a cartouche on the left side of the wrist. A modern version of the Officer’s Model type checkered pistol grip has been added to the underside of the wrist. A folding Vernier target sight has been added to the top of the wrist, and the original ramrod is still present. According to Springfield Armory records, this rifle was issued om February 7, 1899 to Co. B, 3rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry. This is a great looking Trapdoor, and is in very good plus condition overall. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
