Springfield Model 1879 U.S Trapdoor Carbine barrel length 22”. Blued finish with casehardened breechblock and tang. Serial numbered in 100000 to 280000 range this one is serial #176381 lock markings of eagle and US/SPRINGFIELD forward of hammer. Breechblock markings US/MODEL/ 1873. It is noted that in order to deplete old stock of “MODEL 1873” marked breech blocks, Springfield Armory used them on earliest production, in assembly of this model 1879, which makes for some confusion in the identification. See Flaydermans explanation of the various model designations page 584. A feature of the model 1879 is the long range rear sight; leaf style adjustable for windage and elevation, marked “C” on side.
 
Condition: G/VG. Bore is bright with some rifling 25%, somewhat worn, lock has 15-20% blue with nice patina and a little corrosion, BBL and sight have a grey brown color with some patina. Breech block and tang are clean. Stock has dents, dings and scratches but overall G/VG.  (15-68) $1,200.00
