Springfield Trapdoor Carbine-Model 1878
Description: U. S. Springfield Model 1878 Trapdoor Carbine made Oct-Nov 1886 SN3424##. 45-70 with 22” barrel. Buffington rear sight is correctly marked “C” in the upper right hand corner of the ladder. Three lock cam mechanism. The bore is bright with excellent rifling and 22" in length. Gun weighs 8 lbs. Very visible cartouche dated 1886.Wood is in Very good condition. Metal excellent.with no pitting or rust. One slight scratch on receiver plate. After purchasing the carbine from Dr.Frasca along with a front sight cover. Springfield Reasearch Group does not list this gun in their TD database but it is very near a cluster of carbine TD's.. They consider the gun to be a carbine. The forearm shows no sign of a drill holing for a ramrod. Note the very thick wrist ,not found on TD rifles, to give extra support to the wrist. The butt stock has three holes for cleaning and extractor rods. Two holes are 8" and one is 101/2 deep. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you would like additional info or photos.859-eight 0 one eight 5 three seven, 3-day non firing inspection period. No disassembling. Documentaion and authentication fro Dr. Al Frasca: There is no better authentication or provenance than coming from Dr. Al Frasca. I have the original advertising page including photos for that in the site files, but cannot load in the original format right now (for technical reasons), but the text of the ad read: "This 1884 carbine was produced in 1886 and has the SWP/1886 cartouche and circled P firing proof. The front sight cover and M90 rear sight protector were added during the Sp-Am War refurbishing. The carbine has a pristine bore which is blindingly bright. The stock has not been sanded or refinished, but there is a small sliver missing under the lock plate. The carbine has the thick sling bar and thin ring. Most of the bluing is off the barrel, but the metal sureface under the front sight cover is very dark. From the fit of the metal parts, it appears the carbine has never been apart." Will only ship to continental US.. Price includes insurance ncluded shipping. Payment methods: Cash,Money Orders,Banker Check and GunTab SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .45-70 Government |
