Description:
This rifle has markings on sideplate of lock and top of trapdoor saying 1873, but also has parts of a 1879. There is a marking on the buttock saying "MANILA AUG 13 1898". This corresponds with the battle of Manila. Facts support that trapdoors did see service in the Philippines, however, provenance cannot be definitively established that this rifle was there. However, it does offer a great research opportunity for the next owner. The bore is bright and shiny. Cartouches and firing proof are present. .45-70 Government
