The 1873 action bears serial number 340865 and opens and locks crisply. The stock has a barely legible date cartouche that appears to read 1880, and a somewhat clearer inspector’s cartouche behind the trigger guard. The butt of the stock is compartmentalized to contain a three piece cleaning rod. The barrel is bright with modest pitting but good rifling. The rear sight is correct for a carbine and stamped with a small 'c'.
