U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1879 TRAPDOOR RIFLE.

Description:
.45-70 caliber, 32 5/8" barrel secured by two bands with the cleaning rod located underneath. Trapdoor action with external hammer and flat lock marked "US/SPRINGFIELD" Full length walnut stock bearing the U.S. inspector's cartouche for (SWP/1880) on the left wrist. All parts finished blue with the breechblock and uppertang casehardened. In very fine original condition with the metal showing much blue fading to thinning with gray. Very nice with visible cartouche and the bore in excellent. Mechanically sound.
