US Model 1868 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory
Description: Serial #37276, .50-70 Gov’t., 32 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This rifle has an 1863 dated lockplate with an 1870 dated breechblock, and has an overall plum-brown patina along the barrel, receiver, and lock. Additional areas of thin freckling are present throughout, and there is some slightly heavier surface oxidation on the hammer spur and trigger guard. The walnut stock is in very good-fine shape with clear cartouches and minor handling marks scattered about the military oil finish. There is a small, shallow chip missing from the right side of the wrist, as well as some linear marks on the left side opposite the lock ahead of the cartouches. Also there is a name scratched into the Lt side of the buttstock "David ??/ Born Mar 22, ??". The rifle comes with a correct original ramrod that matches the condition of the rifle. This is a very good-near fine example of a .50-70 Trapdoor, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
