US Model 1888 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield
Description: Serial #514761, .45-70, 32 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This ramrod bayonet-equipped rifle has retained 75-80% of the original blue on the barrel, receiver, and lock with mild fading present leaving a mottled gray patina on the balance. The 1884 dated breech block has dark freckling on the exterior, with vivid original color case-hardening on the underside and on some of the protected areas. The walnut stock is in fine condition with some handling marks in the military oil finish, and a still crisp and legible "SWP/1891" cartouche on the left side of the wrist. The stock compartment contains both a Model 1879 combination tool, and a Model 1882 headless shell extractor. This is a very nice Trapdoor that rates very good-near fine overall.
