US SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1879 TRAPDOOR RIFLE WITH BAYONET ... LAYAWAY?
Produced between July and September of 1883. Left side of stock has a bold SWP 1882 cartouche with script proof P at base for Sam Porter. The rear sight has the R stamp and no screw slots. Block stamped US Model 1873 while lock is stamped US Springfield with eagle. Standard two band, walnut stock, metal rod, and with an original single brass frog sling and a fine blued US stamped bayonet with metal scabbard and leather with US brass hanger.
CONDITION: VERY FINE TO EXCELLENT.... Wood is near excellent with very minor handling marks and bold cartouche. Barrel retains majority of blue with some thinning. Case color has darkened. Bore is still bright. Nice prime Indian Wars rifle.Action works perfect.
