US Springfield ~ Trapdoor ~ Model 1873 ~ 45-70 Government ~ 1886 Production
Description: This 1873 Springfield .45-70 Government is a single-shot forward pivoting breech-block "Trapdoor". The right side of the lock is marked with an Eagle, and "U.S. / Springfield". The top of the receiver is marked "345491". The letter "U" is on the right sides of both barrel bands. The top of the buttplate is marked "US". The stock is a one piece, oil finished piece of wood with sling swivels and a curved metal buttplate. The stock is marked with a cartouche "SNP / 1886", & circle "P" behind the lower tang. The trapdoor is marked "US / Model / 1873". There is "VP", Eagle head and "P" on the barrel left side, and "V" on the top. The front sight is a blade pinned on top of a rectangular base set on the barrel. The rear sight is a V notched blade with steps that flips up to become a sliding sight ladder "Buffington". This gun also comes with a cleaning rod and a bayonet marked "US", and an all leather with brass hardware and copper rivets marked "ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL - E.H.? maybe a C". .45-70 Government SOLD Antique: Yes Chambers: Single shot. Metal Condition: "The barrel, trigger guard, barrel bands and sights look to have been refinished. The trap door is mostly patina, and the side plate is thin with some finish and scattered surface corrosion. The end of the barrel has corrosion where the bayonet attac Wood Condition: "90% remaining. The wood shows scratches, and wood compressions from handling and storage. No cracks or splits. Excellent for an 1886. Stock cartouches are strong and present on the wood. Bore Condition: The bore is bright with no corrosion and the rifling is strong. Barrels: 32.5" barrel.
