U.S. Springfield Model 1842 musket. These were the first musket to be made at Springfield Armory using the percussion system, Metal has a gray patina. Lock is dated 1848 and barrel is dated 1851. Stock is in good shape, cartouches are present. Stock does show handling wear. There are two “X”s carved into the wood. Overall good looking model 1842!
