US SPRINGFIELD ARMORY Model 1898 KRAG .30-40 Caliber Bolt Action C&R RIFLE
Krag-Jorgensen Used in the Philippine-American War
Description: US SPRINGFIELD ARMORY Model 1898 KRAG .30-40 Caliber Bolt Action C&R RIFLE Krag-Jorgensen Used in the Philippine-American War Here we present a C&R U.S. Springfield Krag-Jorgensen Bolt Action Rifle, made just before the turn of the 20th Century in 1899. Named after its inventors, Norwegian Royal Artillery Officer Ole Hermann Johannes Krag and civilian Erik Jorgensen, the Krag-Jorgensen rifle was the first small caliber smokeless powder repeating long arm to be adopted by the U.S. Army. Around 500,000 "Krags" in .30 Army (.30-40) caliber were produced at the Springfield Armory in Massachusetts from 1894 to 1904. The Krag–Jørgensen rifle in .30 Army was used in the Boxer Rebellion, the Spanish–American War and the Philippine–American War. A few carbines were used by United States cavalry units fighting Apache in New Mexico Territory and preventing poaching in Yellowstone National Park. Two-thousand rifles were taken to France by the United States Army 10th–19th railway engineers during World War I. This rifle also marked the beginning of the change from large caliber/low muzzle velocity ammo to smaller caliber/higher energy rounds for military applications. Fifty-three different models were tested and rejected before the Army’s 1892 adoption of the Krag-Jorgensen. The overall condition is fair. Original finish. The action is excellent. There is a brass cartridge block installed (that is removable) in the magazine that is meant to turn this rifle into a single shot. The bore is mostly clean and reflective with good rifling but with a dark ring nearer the chamber. The stock shows lots of use. “S” is marked on the butt stock top bottom and both sides. Good cartouche and circle P. The stacking swivel has one arm broken, the front sight blade is absent, and the top handguard is absent. This one is said to have fired blanks. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 30 inches. Caliber: .30-40 Krag (.30 ARMY) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1100 #226940 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
