BEAUTIFUL CONDITION STEVENS IDEAL RIFLE No. 44 IN DESIRABLE .22 LONG RIFLE CALIBER
Description: BEAUTIFUL CONDITION STEVENS IDEAL RIFLE No. 44 IN DESIRABLE .22 LONG RIFLE CALIBER. This is one of the finest examples I've seen and certainly the finest I've ever offered. Made from 1894-1933, the No. 44 single shot Stevens was one of their most popular models. Those in .22 Rim Fire are usually found in very hard used condition. This is a late production example with the model "44" stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger (early rifles have this stamped on the front face of the receiver visible with the forend removed). The receiver retains about all the vivid Stevens case colors including the upper tang and receiver ring. Even the bottom of the lever retains good lightly faded case color. Remarkably, the butt plate retains vivid, bright case colors. The 24" half octagon barrel retains excellent blue and has the original buckhorn rear sight matched with the correct Rocky Mountain blade front sight. The wood is excellent and the action is extremely tight. The bore is also excellent. These are takedown rifles that by removing the screw in the front bottom of the frame, the barrel/forend assembly can be quickly unscrewed and removed. A fine designed rifle and a truly superb example that would be hard or impossible to improve upon.
