Description: Rare Savage Arms VP-Owned Stevens Commemorative Model 71 Rifle SN 00007! Offered here for sale and just acquired from a very prestigious collection is this rare commemorative Stevens Model 71 Favorite .22 rifle comissioned by the Savage Arms Company in 1971. a 1 of 1000 commemorative rifle, this specimen, serial number 00007SF was presented to Savage Arms Co. Vice President Oliver M (Jack) Knode in 1971 and is documented on 1971 Savage Arms invoice 29041 dated 7-29-1971. It states it was consigned to Jack Knode as is "personal" rifle. Acquired from his estate years ago in Connecticut it is in UNFIRED condition. A very low numbered issue, it has great historical significance as his personal rifle. Hansen & Hansen will include documentation along with the rifle. In 1971, Savage Arms (which had acquired or owned the Stevens name) produced a limited-edition version: the Model 71 “Stevens Favorite” Commemorative. According to multiple sources, features include: 22″ octagon barrel, case-hardened receiver with “STEVENS FAVORITE” in gold-filled lettering, gold-plated lever & hammer, brass front sight blade & brass buttplate (crescent shaped), walnut stock with an inlaid brass medallion of Joshua Stevens (the original designer/founder). Although sources state an expanded 10,000 run this 1 of 1,000 is a special presentation run. Historical significance This commemorative rifle is a link between the original Stevens Favorite lineage (dating from the 1890s) and the later Savage era.
