Description: SCARCE STEVENS No. 414 “ARMORY MODEL” .22 LR FALLING BLOCK Rifle Target Early 20th Century Military Style Rifle in .22 Long Rifle Here we present a Stevens Arms Co. No. 404 Falling Block Rifle, made circa 1910-16 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Stevens Arms Company, well known for its Tip-Up Pistols, Boy’s Rifles, and Target Rifles, got its start in Chicopee Falls at the closing years of the Civil War in 1864. Founder Joshua Stevens was a New England toolmaker who gained experience in firearms manufacturing while employed by Eli Whitney, Samuel Colt, and Edwin Wesson. This rifle is chambered for .22 long rifle. It features 26" round barrel, with a with globe front sight and Lyman No. 42 receiver sight—this has a circular aperture in the center and a shallow notch on top. It is finish blued and case colored. It features a walnut straight-grip stock, with semi-beavertail fore-end and a shotgun-type buttplate that was meant to resemble a military rifle of the era. It is also equipped with sling swivels. The overall condition is very fine. Beautiful, original case colors and blued finish. The action is strong all around. The bore is bright with sharp rifling.
