Fantastic wood adorns this Stevens No 44 single shot rifle; the receiver is serial numbered 42138. The rifle has a 26-inch heavy target barrel chambered in 22 Long R with gradual taper and recessed muzzle crown. The bore is perfect. The barrel is marked C.C. Johnson on the side and under the fore end is 470032 DLR. According to the ASSRA site this indicates from the records of C. C. Johnson that this was job # 32 in 1947. The DLR was Mr. Johnsons shop code for Dillard barrels. C.C. Johnson was a very well-known barrel and target rifle builder in the late 30’s-40’s hailing from, Thackery and Lawrenceville OH. The rifle is set up with scope mount blocks and a Lyman #438 Field Scope with lens cover and adjustable and a Lyman # 525 rear sight and a Lyman #77 front globe sight. The front globe can have various apertures installed. The tang is also drilled for the use of a tang mounted sight. The rifle has sling mounts and loops in the beautiful for precision prone or other position shooting. This rifle is extremely accurate.
