Offered for sale is a highly desirable Stevens Model 49 Schuetzen rifle built on the legendary Model 44½ action, chambered in .28-30 Stevens. This is a correct, factory-configured rifle dating to the 1902–1916 production period, with several premium features rarely encountered together.
The receiver is correctly stamped “49” and is Stevens factory engraved, showing sharp, original engraving and vibrant case color. The rifle is fitted with the factory nickel-plated Schuetzen buttplate, an especially attractive and scarce feature.
The barrel is stamped “1”, measures 29 7/8 inches, and retains a recessed crown at the muzzle. The bore is excellent, rating 9½ out of 10, with strong rifling and bright surfaces — a standout example for this caliber. The rifle is equipped with factory scope blocks, making it suitable for period optics if desired.
Additional details include a two-screw forend, correct for the model, and an original rear sight that shows a very slight wiggle. Length of pull measures 13 5/8 inches.
Included with the rifle are 19 original .28-30 Stevens cartridges, a nice period accompaniment and increasingly difficult to source.
