Stevens Model 425 - 25 Remington - Rare
Description: Lever action .25 Remington caliber. A somewhat rare firearm. I recommend to anyone to do their own research, my research shows that the rarest caliber offered in the Model 425 was the .25 Remington, and it was only offered from 1910 to 1917. It holds 4 in the magazine plus of course 1 in the chamber. Internet literature describes the barrel as Factory Nickel Steel Heavy Barrel. Forend of stock has few handling marks. Rear stock has pea-sized piece of corner wood chipped out where the upper tang meets the right side of the receiver, and there is a small chip of wood missing at the bottom of the buttplate area. There are some very small very light handling marks in the rear stock and some light scratches in the varnish. The wood has a satin varnish that is still holding up well. There are no cracks in any of the wood. The stain is darkening but you can still see the beautiful woodgrain in the photos and video clip that I can provide to a SERIOUS buyer. The metal has some very very light surface pits dotted here and there but in general most the metal is smooth. There are coloration blotches in the metal that are typical in nickel-steel for a gun this age. The sides of the hammer have small areas of what looks like either a cleaned up surface rust, or some deep scratches. There is a small scrape in the receiver to the right of the hammer. The trigger prefers to sit a tiny bit off center to the lever, it’s not immediately noticeable, and it functions fine. Maybe it’s normal for this gun? Sights are complete. Bore still has some shinyness but is starting to show some frosting, and the grooves are starting to wear but are still suitably defined with lots of mileage left. Not bad for a firearm somewhere around 110 years old. Cartridges cycle and load correctly, everything functions as shown in a video clip I can provide. A neat old well-made gun from an era where several new calibers were being presented to the public in an effort to see what would trend to popularity and what wouldn’t. The 25 Remington hung in there for a while, and there are several articles on the internet highly regarding the Stevens Model 425 as a surprisingly well-built and handsome firearm in comparison to what Stevens would normally make. This one wasn’t their usual budget-minded firearm, they were a bit pricey for the time. I bought this several years ago, I never seem to get around to using it anymore so I’ve decided to let it go to someone who will use it and enjoy it. Terms are as per this Description section and our correspondence. Cash only if a Local sale.
