STEVENS No. 70 “Visible Loading Repeating” PUMP ACTION .22 S, L, LR Rifle C&R Light & Popular SLIDE ACTION Rifle From the Early 1900s
Description: STEVENS No. 70 “Visible Loading Repeating” PUMP ACTION .22 S, L, LR Rifle C&R Light & Popular SLIDE ACTION Rifle From the Early 1900s Here we present a C&R Stevens No. 70 “Visible Loading Repeater” Slide Action Rifle, made circa 1915 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. This rifle is chambered in .22 Short, Long & Long Rifle and was purchased by and for boys and youth in the early 20th Century. This would have been the rifle that a boy learned on, plinked and hunted with. The Visible Loading Repeater was introduced in 1908, and products based on its action were in production through 1934. The breechblock comes out when the slide is moved rearward, and not only does it contain the firing pin, but also the lifter and extractor. You can even see the end of the magazine tube. This design would indeed allow the shooter to see almost the entire functioning of the gun. We know this one is from before 1920 because the markings on top still say "Visible Loading Repeater". This was changed to “Visible Loader” a little while after the Savage takeover on April 1, 1920. Also, Savage added an “SVG” cartouche to the left side of the receiver, which this rifle doesn’t have. Total production of the No. 70 was, as well as can be estimated, is somewhere north of 100,000, which implies that each serial number was used at least three and probably four times. The overall condition is fine. The metal surfaces have been expertly refinished in blue with a nickeled receiver. The action is excellent and the bore is bright with nice rifling. The stock is smooth and solid. The butt plate is marked “S” for Stevens. Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 22 inches. Caliber: .22 S, L, LR Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1625 #215193 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
