About Us: I've been collecting Steyr Mannlicher rifles for 20 years with a flair for magnum and other exotic calibers. I also like interesting craftsmanship and unique pieces.
Steyr Daimler Mannlicher Schoenauer 8x60S Magnum
Description: This is original Steyr magnum in the classic 8x60S (.323). I once read on a popular Mannlicher Schoenauer site that this caliber is among the most rare other than the .257 Wby and 10.75x68 magnum rifles. I'm not sure my personal experience agrees but they are pretty hard to come by. This is the rimless version and ammo is surprisingly easy to get and actually very cheap. The metal and wood are all original with the only exception being the rear claw base which is a period-correct installation. Strangely, I can not figure out how the front claw would have mounted because the metal and wood show no signs of fitting for a base. Otherwise, I do have plenty of claws and blanks and easily had a mount made to fit the existing bases. If anyone has an idea on this, please drop me a line because I would love to hear it. The bluing is thin as you would expect from a rifle that is nearly 100 years old. Also the wood has plenty of dents and dings but no cracks that are representative of the character earned by this classic beauty. The bolt and triggers are tight and no slop as sometimes one might find in these older pre-war models. This rifle does have a strong collectible value, however because of the caliber and condition, it would also be a great candidate for a high-end custom sporter. With a high-grade stock and scope mounts, this would be a really special rifle to use out in the field. If you are in to pre-war Steyrs, don't let this one go because they don't come around in this price range very often. Buyer pays $40 for shipping and extra for insurance if desired. FFL, certified funds and all of the usual. I reserve the right to cancel this listing at any time so please enquire before making assumptions about availability and purchase.
