HEMBRUG Dutch M95 Sporterized – 30-40 Krag - 19.5" Barrel – Open Sights
This rifle comes to us as a consignment sale. We believe that it was originally a Dutch M95 (also known as a Dutch Mannlicher). We base that on the physical characteristics of the rifle and the “Hembrug 1911" stamp on the left side of the receiver. These rifles were used by the military forces of the Netherlands from 1895 until 1940. They were originally chambered for Dutch 6.5, which is now considered an obsolete caliber. Accordingly, many of these rifles were modified and chambered in a more readily available caliber. The owner of this rifle states that his has been re-chambered for 30-40 Krag. However, the barrel has no stamping so we can’t confirm that.
One more note on original versus current configuration. These rifles were loaded from the top, through an open bolt and used a type of en-bloc clip to hold the rounds (think M1 Garand type of en-bloc clip). When empty, the clip would fall through a hole in the base of the magazine housing. Unless you have an en-bloc clip that holds 30-40 Krag, this would essentially be a single shot rifle.
The barrel is approximately 19.5 inches and has no stamping on it. The pistol grip stock is likely not the original stock, even accounting for it being sporterized. A WFS ventilated recoil pad sits at the end of the buttstock.
