Description:
This is an excellent example of a custom long-range tactical rifle. The Model 700 is one the best bolt action rifles available and is prized for its long-range shooting abilities. The SPS Tactical is a subvariant originally introduced in 2008 with a 20”-long, tri-fluted heavy barrel. Newer versions feature a non-fluted, threaded tip barrel for use with suppressors, muzzle brakes, or simple flash hiders. This example is equipped with the latter. Sighting is via a Pentax Gameseeker Model 30 8.5-32x50mm scope. It is mounted using a Weaver 97 (SKU 48097) one-piece rail and a pair of Accushot 30mm scope rings. The rifle is well suited to hitting targets at great distances. Magazine capacity has been increased using a Tactical Component Mfg. Mag-Xtender and can hold 9 rounds of .223, plus one in the chamber for a total of ten. A Beartooth Products Stock Guard has been added to the buttstock which functions as a nice cheek piece. The bipod fitted is a Blackhawk Sportster. The synthetic stock is in excellent shape with little to no wear. The rifle’s bore is in similar condition. The scope rail appears to have had some wear to the finish which has been covered by one of those “finish” correction pens. The finish is relatively close to the original though it is not an exact match. This is of course a scope rail, not the receiver or the barrel. Thanks to its heavy barrel, there is no reason the 700 SPS Tactical could not also be used as a target rifle or as a hunting rifle for small game. The .223 Remington is famous for its ability to be chambered in small, short-action rifles possessing a respectable ammo capacity and its suitability for a wide variety of roles. It produces less recoil than most other cartridges and is accurate when using the correct bullet and powder for the intended job. It is an excellent, all-round cartridge as far as small-bore rifle cartridges are concerned. It completely replaced the .222 Remington and .222 Remington Magnum cartridges and has largely replaced the .22 Hornet and the .218 Bee.
