During the early 20th century, a gun was developed that would shoot game in the absence of the marksman and with unerring accuracy. It would wait all day and night for its quarry, then let go with “a steady hand,” even in the darkest night. This “Set Gun” appeared in 1914 and was manufactured by the F.C. Taylor Fur Company and named the “Taylor Fur Getter.”
The Set Gun fired a single shot of .22 caliber long rifle ammunition. It would fire when the animal would attempt to retrieve the bait.
