THOMPSON-CENTER HAWKEN RIFLE IN SCARCE .45 PERCUSSION. These fine American made half-stock muzzle loaders have been discontinued for a number of nears now and they are becoming harder and harder to find. Most encountered are .50 caliber. The .45 is particularly useful as it can be used with a patched round ball for small game and target shooting or loaded with a heavy charge of black powder and a .45 caliber "Maxie" bullet (or any number of other lead .45 caliber grooved bullets) to equal the .45-70 or .45-90 ballistics for about any big game hunting in America. The Hawken was T-Cs top of the line muzzle loader and features a brass butt plate, fancy brass trigger guard, adjustable double set triggers, 28" blued octagon barrel and case colored lock. It also has an adjustable rear sight and blade/bead front sight. The walnut stock is also fitted with an inletted attractive brass cap box. This one has seen some light use, but is still fine inside and out. When received, it was covered with a thick film of dust and dried grease. After a quick wipe-down it showed some minor scattered freckling here and there that you have to look for to see. Should be a great shooter with either round ball or bullet.
