The Thompson Center (T/C) Compass is a budget-friendly bolt-action hunting rifle introduced by Thompson/Center Arms in 2016, known for its three-lug bolt, 5R rifled barrel, and affordable price point. It was developed as an extension of T/C‚s philosophy of providing functional, accurate, and affordable firearms for hunters and was part of their entry into the competitive budget bolt-action rifle market. After improvements led to the Compass II, production shifted from Rochester, NH, to Massachusetts following Smith & Wesson‚s 2007 acquisition of the company, a situation that was reversed in 2024 when Gregg Ritz bought back the company and moved production back to Rochester, NH.
