A fantastic choice for a budget-friendly hunting rifle, the Thompson Center Compass made by Smith & Wesson is a bolt-action rifle with polymer stock and classic features well under $500. This rifle is chambered in .270 Winchester, a fast and flat-shooting cartridge ideal for hunting medium-sized game, even at extended range. The Compass has a 21 ½" barrel with 5R rifling—an improved rifling design which improves accuracy and is easier to maintain. The barrel is also threaded and ready to accept muzzle devices or suppressors. The rifle features a three-position safety lever, not unlike those found on the Winchester Model 70. The rifle is fed from a rotary magazine and holds five rounds in the magazine, plus one in the chamber. The receiver has a Picatinny/Weaver scope rail for attaching the optic of your choice. The synthetic polymer stock is lightweight and weather-resistant and features molded grip textures on the beavertail forend and pistol grip and has a rubber buttpad attached to cushion against recoil. This rifle is in excellent condition and shows very little wear inside and out. The barrel's finish has some wear about 2/3 of the way down the barrel, likely from sitting in a safe. Otherwise, there is no noticeable finish wear and the gun operates perfectly. This rifle includes one OEM magazine but does not come with a case or box. .270 Winchester
