**SOLD** Ruger Model 77 Mark II Chambered in .22 Hornet **Minty Condition in a Scarce Caliber** **SOLD**
Description: Here we have an excellent Ruger Model 77 Mark II bolt action rifle chambered in the legendary .22 Hornet caliber. The Ruger M77 is a bolt-action rifle produced by Sturm, Ruger & Company. It was designed by Jim Sullivan during his three years with Ruger. The rifle features a traditional Mauser-style two-lugged bolt with a claw extractor and a three position safety. From the beginning, the Ruger M77 was intended as a modernized Mauser 98, though numerous changes were made. Bill Ruger wanted to use investment casting in place of a forged receiver. The Sullivan-designed bolt dispensed with the Mauser blade type ejector and instead used the simpler plunger style of ejector. The M77 uses an angled screw that draws the action down and to the rear, tightly bedding it against the stock. The .22 Hornet is a varminting, small-game hunting, survival and competition centerfire rifle cartridge commercially introduced in 1930. It is considerably more powerful than the rimfire .22 WMR and the .17 HMR, achieving higher velocity with a bullet twice the weight of the .17 HMR bullet. The Hornet also differs very significantly from these in that being a centerfire cartridge makes it reloadable, and thus much more versatile. This particular example has tungston colored metal and a laminated stock. The 24" barrel has an excellent bore and is crowned at the muzzle. The Mark II series introduced a three position safety to the model 77 meaning that when in the middle position the rifle can be safely unloaded and still not fire should the trigger be pulled accidentally. This rifle exhibits only the slightest of handling marks - one small dink on the front of the pistol grip which can be seen in the photo third from last. This rifle would make a fine addition to an existing collection or a great beginning to a new collection.
