Super-Early Weatherby Pre-Mark V Rifle in .300 Weatherby Magnum w/ Period Lyman 4X Challenger Scope
** Serial Number 270! **
Description:
This classic Weatherby is really a beautiful rifle. This is a pre-Mark V model in .300 Weatherby Magnum with period Buehler mounts and rings and a Lyman Challenger scope. This rifle is serial number 270, likely a first year production rifle from 1949! It is all-original and in great shape overall. It exhibits all of the early desirable features including a 26" inch "Chrome Bore" marked barrel, a FN Mauser action, and a Jaeger trigger. This rifle exhibits exceptional workmanship and attention to detail that made Roy Weatherby's rifles popular with hunters and shooters all over the world. The original high-gloss blue finish on this Weatherby is in very good condition and still has a great shine to it. As you can see in the pictures provided there is minor wear in places and some evidence of prior surface rust scattered about, but nothing that detracts much from the clean overall look of the rifle. The bore in this pre-Mark V is great, still showing nice strong rifling and no pitting, erosion, bulges, or damage. The original stock is solid and free from any cracks, chips, or repairs. The hand-cut checkering shows very minor wear but still has plenty of grip left in it, and the factory installed recoil pad, pistol grip cap, and ebony forend are still in place and in great shape. All of the controls on this Weatherby are in perfect working order, and the action is smooth and precise when worked by hand. The bolt goes into battery perfectly with no slop and the Jaeger trigger is exceptional, breaking like a glass rod with a light pull. The .300 Weatherby chambering is an excellent cartridge for this rifle. The .300 Weatherby Magnum is a cartridge capable of taking any big game in North America as well as numerous species all over the world. It is a very powerful and versatile cartridge that is well known for both knock-down power and accuracy, even at extremely long ranges. As mentioned earlier, this Weatherby comes with really nice period-correct Buehler mounts and a vintage Lyman Challenger 4-Power scope already mounted up. As far as we can tell, these mounts and scope have been on the rifle for many decades and they look great together. This Lyman scope was top-of-the-line when it was new and even today still has bright and clear optics. The scope is in very good condition and the windage and elevation adjustments work perfectly. This Challenger scope has a really cool super-fine wire crosshair with a dot reticle. If you have been looking for a new classic rifle for your collection this 1st year production Weatherby pre-Mark V would be an excellent choice.
