Although a bit old school to us not only are these still among the most attractive of all production hunting rifles but in this configuration with 26" barrel are known for accuracy and performance. We followed a recent blog in which testing using less expensive Rem ammo accuracy was 1/2" right from the box without hand loading, barrel cool down or cleaning between shots. In our experience with the 26" barrel felt recoil is not noticibly different than from an 06 and not unpleasant. To the best of our knowledgs this old cal still out performs all of the other 300 mags. And in these distinctive and very handsome Weatherby rifles has taken every animal on the planet including the largest and most dangerous game. Although a reader recenlty pointed out that in tests one other action proved stronger (we don't know this) but historically it has been thougth to be true that the Mark V Weatherby has been the strongest of all production rifle actions.
