Presented here is a very widely respected Weatherby Mark V 35th Anniversary bolt action rifle in .300 WBY Magnum caliber. Originally designed as a 9-lug, push-feed action, the Mark V rises head and shoulders above other bolt-action rifles in a number of regards. First and foremost, it has long been considered the strongest action in the world — built to harness the increased pressures of Roy Weatherby’s signature cartridges. Another is the Mark V’s lowest-in-class bolt rotation, clocking in at 54°. Less rotation allows for quicker reloads and the ability to mount scopes as close to the bore as possible. The forged, one-piece bolt is fluted and has relief ports and a full shroud to protect the user in the case of an ammunition failure. A smooth and silent two-position safety also serves as a bolt lock when in the ‘SAFE’ position. This particular example has been carried in the field and has some handling and use marks on both the stock and the metal components. The stock has some pressure marks and dinks....several marks are on the bottom between the rear sling stud and the butt pad. The barrel exhibits some marks and high edge wear. The rifle has 35th Anniversary markings and commemorative labelings. The hinged floorplate is embellished with anniversary engraving and the stock has tasteful contrasting wood at the forend and grip cap. Checkering is very fine and nicely done. The 24 inch barrel has a good bore with strong rifling. A Leupold one piece base is fitted to the top of the receiver. The action is smooth and sure with a jeweled bolt. This fine Weatherby would make a great addition to a collection or an excellent field rifle.
