Exceptionally Clean Weatherby Mark V Sporter in .240 Weatherby Magnum. This one was made in the U.S.A. in Atascadero, California. I have always wanted to try a .240 Wby Mag. and this one did not dissapoint. It has a Nikon Monarch 4-12 X Scope that appears as new. The Mark V action in the .240 is smaller than in the bigger Weatherby calibers and has 6 locking lugs instead of 9. This makes the package a little smaller and noticably lighter. Recoil is mild, even though the .240 puts out a Barnes 80 grain TTSX at 3440 FPS and when sighted at 300 yards it rises only 3.5" above the line of sight and at 500 yards only drops 24.4" below LOS. A 100 Grain bullet starts out at nearly 3300 FPS and has an almost identical ballistic profile but delivers 33% more energy at 500 yards. I have only put 2 boxes of ammo through this rifle and for me it was very accurate. Groups ran from 1/2 inch to an inch. I haven't tried handloading for it, but I think that there is potential to improve. The rifle appears as new except for a small spot on the barrel, just in front if the stock forend where the blue is thinning. It looks like something got on the bluing and thinned it. It is clearly visible in the pictures. There is also a tiny dent in the right side of the buttstock. I had to do an extreme close up to be able to see it clearly, but it is there. Check the last picture. This caliber has always been known as a long range antelope caliber. It would be perfect for antelope but would also work for varmints, coyotes, and Whitetail and Mule Deer. I know of one hunter who is older, like me, and uses it for Elk with the Barnes TTSX because of the light recoil and he swears by it. He says, " it's where you hit them, not what you hit them with". Look closely at the photos, This is a good one at a very reasonable price.
