Not your average Ruger 10/22, the Weatherby XXII was introduced in 1961 and was produced by a handful of well-regarded companies around the world until 1989, but reintroduced in 2007 as a bolt-action rifle. The Weatherby XXIIs were quite a handsome .22: glossy walnut stocks with Monte Carlo-style cheek risers on either side, deep polished bluing on the barrels and receivers, and some models even featured an adjustable trigger! One irregular feature of the XXII is its selectable single-shot or semi-auto firing modes. The single-shot mode will allow for a single shot before the bolt locks back, and pushing the firing mode lever forward will allow the bolt to close and load the next cartridge. This particular piece is one of the first batch from 1961-1962 produced by Beretta in Italy with the adjustable trigger. Its safety is mounted on the rear tang of the pistol grip, similar to many Mossberg shotguns, allowing for easy manipulation for left- and right-handed shooters. This rifle includes one 5-round magazine, though 10-round magazines do exist for this model. The barrel does have some scratches near the base of the rear sight and the bluing around the crown of the barrel has worn away, indicating a lifetime of regular use. The stock finish is still very glossy and checkering is in great shape. The metal buttplate shows some signs of wear, but no there is visible damage to the firearm overall.
