While technically used, this Weatherby Vanguard is in like-new, excellent condition. This Vanguard rifle is chambered in the .257 Weatherby Magnum caliber, an extremely flat shooting standard-length magnum cartridge capable of pushing a 115 grain bullet at 3400 fps in factory loaded ammunition. Roy Weatherby was particularly fond of this caliber, on numerous occasions he called it his favorite. The Weatherby Vanguard model rifle has earned a reputation for being a great all-around rifle, accurate, balanced, and well built but not too heavy. As mentioned previously, this rifle is in excellent condition. The original factory blue finish rates a solid 99%, with no handling marks or marring. The alloy trigger guard and floorplate are also in excellent condition, with only some tiny marks on the edge of the trigger guard bow. The bore in the 24" barrel on this Weatherby is minty. The bore is bright and pristine with sharp lands and grooves in the rifling. There is no pitting or erosion whatsoever. The factory stock is a black composite Monte Carlo style unit in excellent condition with a cheekpiece and a factory installed recoil pad. The length of pull is 13.5 inches to the end of the pad. The stock also has factory installed sling swivel studs. This Vanguard comes with a Nikon M-223 3-12X42 scope mounted in Warne rings on Weaver bases. The scope features a side focus adjustment, a BDC reticle, and has crystal clear optics. Both the windage and elevation adjustments work perfectly as do all of the adjustments on this scope. While the scope comes from Nikon with a 55 grain .223 Remington cartridge turret, Nikon offers custom elevation turrets on their for this scope model and the new owner can easily order a .257 Weatherby Magnum turret in his/her chosen ammunition brand and bullet weight. We went to the to verify that, and Nikon offers a large selection of .257 Weatherby Magnum ammo brands and bullet choices for their turrets. The cost of one of these custom turrets is $99. Everything on this rifle and scope works 100% like the day it left the factory. The action is smooth and locks up tight, and the trigger breaks nicely without being too heavy. This rifle package is perfectly set up for hunting or long range target shooting. If you have been looking for an all-weather rifle package that is accurate, durable, and in a cool caliber, this Weatherby Vanguard would be an excellent choice. Priced at $595 and in like-new condition, it is a real bargain considering the rifle alone would cost more than that new, and the scope sells for over $400 without rings or bases.
