Scarce Whitney-Kennedy saddle ring carbine with s-lever. Only about 1,000 carbines were made circa 1879-1886. The overall length is approximately 38¾”. The 20” round .44 caliber centerfire (.44-40) barrel has a good shootable bore with strong rifling and a few areas of pitting. Metal is a pleasing smooth blue/brown patina. The butt stock is good with a gap to the frame that could be fixed. It is also undersized at the wrist. The forearm is very good. The action functions correctly. The barrel is marked “Whitneyville Armory CT. USA Kennedy. The saddle ring is present. This carbine competed with the Winchester Model 1873 it belongs in any carbine or Western collection.
