Antique WHITNEY US M1816/22 Musket BRASS TACK DECORATED CANOE GUN A Hard-Use, Altered Percussion Necessity Musket
Description: Antique WHITNEY US M1816/22 Musket BRASS TACK DECORATED CANOE GUN A Hard-Use, Altered Percussion Necessity Musket Here we present an antique Whitney Arms Co. U.S. Model 1816/1822 Musket, manufactured circa 1839 in New Haven, Connecticut. Philos & Eli Whitney Blake were the nephews of Eli Whitney Sr. and were believed to be the trustees of the Whitney Armory from 1823 until Eli Whitney Jr. coming of age in 1842. There were 24,000 muskets made under this contract in the 1830s through 1841. Many of these muskets were converted to percussion just prior to the Civil War, though there were many that were used in the war that were still in their flintlock format. This piece has been shortened both in barrel and stock, given a front sight blade, and had a rib under the barrel for the ramrod. The butt plate has been gone for the vast majority of this musket’s life and there is some charring on the stock at that end. Brass tacks with iron shanks on the right side of the stock. This is the epitome of a frontier poor man’s musket—something that could be loading with a single .69 caliber ball, or shot, or a combination such as buck and ball. It would have been used for hunting and fighting. Despite being a bit crude and simple, it would have been quite effective as evidenced by how hard this one was apparently used while remaining in relatively good condition today. The overall condition is good. Dark weathered patina. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock shows much use and is as described above. Solid throughout. This one has “rode the river”, as they say. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 29-7/8 inches. Caliber: .69 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2200 #244113 SOLD Antique: Yes |
