Very Scarce Whitney Phoenix Sporting .44-40 WCF (AL4991)

Description:

Very Scarce Whitney Phoenix Sporting .44-40 WCF caliber rifle. Approximately 2,000 sporting rifles were made from 1867-1881. This rifle has a 30” round barrel with a fine bore. The rear sight has been moved approximately â…?” to the rear from its original location. Metal has a smooth gray patina overall. Wood is very good with the forearm having an almost undecidable crack on the bottom where it meets the frame. The left-side of the butt stock has the remains of a nail that apparently once held a very small escutcheon in place. These are rarely seen rifles in any condition.
