Description:
This is a great looking Winchester Model 1886 chambered in the desirable .45-70 Govt., 26" octagon barrel, full magazine, rifle butt plate. Made in 1901. The action on this 1886 is very smooth and tight. The receiver finish is faint original case coloring and fine pin prick type pitting worn to a silver. Lever and hammer also have a similar finish with faint case coloring in protected areas. The barrel and magazine tube retain 40% of their original bluing having turned a nice plum color with the remainder a gun metal grey. Both the mag tube and the barrel have misc. scratches, marks, and rust freckles as shown in the photos. The bore is good with nice rifling - a 7 out of 10. Wood of the butt stock is good with good fit and no repairs - with dings and scratches from use. The forestock is solid with no repairs and has an old gouge on the left side from use. This rifle has a story to tell of frontier living at the turn of the century! No refinishing has been done to the wood, and worn original finish is still intact. This rifle locks up tight and functions perfectly. C&R eligible, 3-day inspection.
