.44-40. 26" octagonal barrel. SN: 73962 (Mfg. ca1881). Moderately oxidized brown chemical patina overall, brass cartridge lifter, smooth walnut stock with crescent butt and smooth forend. Lever action tubular magazine rifle with second model dust cover rail secured by screws, a semi-buckhorn rear sight and a dovetailed blade front sight. Barrel with two-line "King's Improvement" address and patent marking. Barrel with "44" caliber markings but bottom of lifter with INCORRECT "38 Cal" marking. Butt trap for cleaning rods is empty.
Condition Report. Very good as restored. Bore about good with oxidation and scattered light pitting but showing strong rifling. Metal with an applied brown patina and showing some scattered light pitting, mostly on the barrel near the receiver where the markings are somewhat obscured. Barrel also shows some minor dings and impact marks. Cartridge lifter is replaced. Action remains functional. Wood lightly sanded and with some handling marks and dings.
