Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle Chambered in .32-20 Caliber **Honest - Mfg 1905**
Description: Here we have an honest 1905 mfg Winchester Model 1892 lever action rifle chambered in .32-20 caliber. When asked by Winchester to design an improved lever action to compete with a recent Marlin offering, John Browning said he would have the prototype completed in under a month or it would be free. Within two weeks, Browning had a functioning prototype of the '92. The original Winchester company made 1,007,608 Model 1892 rifles. The Depression greatly affected sales of the Winchester '92, and at the start of World War II, Winchester dropped production when it retooled for the war effort. Production was not resumed after the war.This particular example was manufactured in 1905 in .32-20 caliber. This rifle is in overall good condition - at some point it had the tubular magazine shortened somewhat - it originally went full length to the muzzle. The metal has lost much of it's finish over the years and has taken on a handsome warmish grey/black patina. The receiver and barrel have a few character marks but nothing severe. The 24 inch octagon barrel has some frosting in the bore and some rifling remains. Sights are a dovetailed front blade and a rear that is adjustable for elevation. The action works smoothly and locks up tightly. If this rifle could talk it would surely have some adventurous stories to tell. This firearm would make a great addition to a collection of cowboy guns or an excellent way to start a new collection.
