Winchester Model 70, 22 Hornet, 1937, unmolested very rare example w/ Lyman Junior 6X Targetspot scope
Description: FOUR digit serial number. When was the last time you saw a very authentic Model 70 made in 1937?
Check other Model 70 listings and you will find some in the $6k-$12k price range. And most have been redone in some fashion. Like old cars, the unrestored original examples will appreciate over the years. This rifle is just as it left the door of the hardware store after they installed the scope and mounts. It has been noted that the title including "unmolested" is incorrect and I would remove that term except without relisting I am not able to edit the title. Unmolested since leaving the store in 1937 is what I was trying to explain.
Take a good hard look at all the photographs and feel free to request additonal. You will find that this is probably the finest example of a very early Model 70 (1937) in complete original condition. Nothing has been redone. The old varnish is still on the stock and even the sling is original. This was my father's on the Iowa farm he grew up on. HIs woodchuck gun in 22 Hornet. He later went on to become a master marksman in the Army and at one point taught marksmanship at the FBI school.
The rifle has the original Lyman 6X Junior Targetspot scope which is also in very fine condition. The barrel is above average and almost excellent. Blueing is outstanding except on the bottom reloading plate and trigger guard. Bore is perfect. As noted the wood has the original varnish which of course has darkened quite a bit and the wood does show small areas of wear from my fathers use.
Remember this was manufactured in 1937! Serial number 3734 with matching numbers on bolt and action.
I hate to part with it but my children have no interest in it and I just keep it in the safe. I think I've only shot it once in all the years. I'm hoping it finds a good home in a great collection.
Very, very rare. Metal 90% and wood maybe 95%
Please ask questions as I would like to make sure the buyer is extremely happy with the purchase. It's not cheap but will only appreciate in the years to come.
The scope alone can sell for $1000 and up.
I will only ship to an FFL and will include a copy of my license for their use. Please forward me the address and a copy of their FFL. Shipping to most locations will be $65 which includes insurance.
Thank you for looking. Be sure to check out my other items and check back often since I am in the process of making room in the safes.
