1979 Winchester Model 1894 Legendary Frontiersman Commemorative in .38-55 Winchester
** Neat Caliber / Great Shooter! **
Description:
This 1979 vintage Winchester Legendary Frontiersman commemorative is one of the few that was not made in .30-30 Winchester. The .38-55 cartridge was one of the two (the other being .32-40 Winchester) earliest calibers of Winchester's "most popular deer rifle". It is also the largest caliber in which this model was made. Like many commemoratives that were bought by collectors this example appears to be unfired, however it is not in excellent condition due to be stored in a safe room that had a roof leak in it in an overfilled safe. As a result of the humidity, some small rust spots formed on the exterior of the barrel and magazine tube, some of the silver plating was affected with some speckling, and it acquired some minor dings from being bumped around in the safe. As you can see from the pictures, despite these deductions the rifle has a very attractive look to it. The bore in this rifle is absolutely perfect and was not affected. The rifling is still sharp and clean and there is no pitting or erosion visible. The original stock set is exceptional on this rifle. The buttstock and forearm have beautiful figure and contrasting grain in it. The stock set is in excellent shape and free from any cracks, chips, or repairs. This rifle is in perfect working order with a smooth action that locks up tight. Long known as a very accurate round that is fun to shoot, .38-55 Winchester ammunition is currently in production from several makers and is widely available. If you have been looking for a vintage caliber Winchester lever gun to add to your collection this 1979-vintage Model 1894 Legendary Frontiersman would be a great choice. It is definitely a beautiful rifle with collectible value, but it has just enough cosmetic wear that you shouldn't feel bad shooting it
