Description: ****SOLD**** 1st Model Winchester 1873 Deluxe Rifle fitted with a 26" octagon barrel, "Thumb Print" dust cover, button magazine, nicely figured and checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock, ebony inlay on pistol grip, steel shotgun buttplate, Beach front sight, semi buckhorn rear sight, color case hardened receiver, butt-plate, hammer, lower tang, and lever, and chambered in .44 W.C.F. (44-40). This 1878 vintage rifle is in excellent original condition, with the barrel and tube magazine retaining 60% of their original blue finish and the receiver retaining 40% of its original color case hardened finish, the lower tang 85%, the hammer about 70%, and the lever and butt-plate having turned an even patina. The stock and forearm retain most all of their finishes with crisp checkering, and the wood sits proud of the metal. The bore is very nice, bright with sharp rifling and only very minor corrosion present. The action functions perfectly and the dust cover fits tight and functions smoothly. A very nice example of a antique 1st Model 1873 Deluxe Rifle. Note: There is an old repair in the wrist of the stock that was done a very long time ago and is hard to spot and solid. The letter states that it was returned for repair in 1881 and it may have been performed at this time. A beautifle example of one of the most famous firearms in the history of the American West!
