Winchester Model 1886 Standard Rifle .40-82 WCF
Description: It was 1887 and in New Haven, CT, the Winchester Repeating Arms Company was in the second year of production of the Model 1886 rifle. Approximately 3200 of these rifles were made in the first year (1886) and another 11,500 would be made in the suceeding one. Eventually, nearly 160,000 would be made until the model was discontinued in 1935. The serial number of 4034 on this rifle would indicate that it was likely manufactured in January of 1887 when Grover Cleveland was midway through his first Presidency of the United States and the U.S. Senate voted to allow the Navy to lease Pearl Harbor as our Pacific Ocean naval base (where history would be made 55 years later in December, 1941). In its more than 125 years of existence, this rifle has retained a great deal of its originality, but the world has changed greatly. All things considered, this gun has weathered the passage of time well and evokes thoughts of a simpler time when a man's word and the firm grip of his handshake constituted a "contract". If you are so inclined as to own a tangible piece of American history, this is an ideal opportunity to do so. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: The four-digit serial number of 4034 places this gun early in the second year of production (1887).
