For sale here is a rare, beautiful custom pre-64 Winchester model 70 rifle by the great stock builder Dale Goens. It's a 1939 action with a Goens custom barrel finished in a high, deep gloss. It has his name engraved on the top and the caliber roll mark on the left side at the action. The barrel has no marks or dings on the finish. The once piece French Walnut stock has beautiful dark grain throughout with a cheekpiece that blends flawlessly into the checkering. Dales's wife Skip did the fine checkering that surrounds the forend and the sides of the pistol grip. The gun has the Original Model 70 floorplate with a custom profiled trigger guard bow with a center bow release, A 3-position Model 70 wing safety, Two panel teardrop bolt knob checkering, Checkered bolt stop release, and Model 70 trigger are featured. The Goens classic stock has the Classic Goens wrap around checkering pattern and Shadowline cheekpiece, It has an Ebony forend tip, and Nice color and contrast in the wood, The original Goens blue is excellent, and each of the guard screws is very finely hand checkered; this lovely checkering and bordering is replicated on the steel pistolgrip cap. The rifle is flawlessly stocked in a wonderful piece of very near exhibition grade French walnut, in a classic style with a flared shadowline cheekpiece; there is lovely grain throughout and wonderful contrasting mineral streaking most prevalent in the butt. The butt plate is checkered as well and fits flawlessly. There is one small mark near the front sling pin and another tiny mark on the bottom of the cheekpiece that's barely noticeable and some small, shallow marks on the left side under the action. None of these affect the appearance of the wood. The wood is otherwise in excellent condition. It has a Nickel Supra 2-1/2 x 6 rifle scope attached in good condition with a high gloss finish that matches the barrel in Refield mounts. LOP is 14 inches. Mr. Goens, a longtime New Mexico resident passed in 2005, but he left a legacy of many fine, beautiful rifles.
