Winchester 1885 Low Wall Winder Musket US Marked .22 Short, 28" bull bbl, bright shiny bore, good rifling, MFG circa 1918, Winchester's first single shot rifle, one of approximately 11,000 purchased by the U.S. Ordnance Department from 1918 - 1919 for training purposes, finish is turning a nice brown-grey patina, receiver mounted rear peep sight, dovetail front sight, nice hardwood straight stock - forearm, metal end cap, swivel sling loops, and a metal butt plate. The Ordnance Department’s “US" - Flaming Bomb is stamped behind the hammer, the tang is stamped “----TRADE MARK----" - "--WINCHESTER --" - "REG.US.PAT.OFF & FGN.”, “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO" - "NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 7 1879” is stamped on the left side of the barrel with ".22 SHORT" stamped on the left side of the barrel close to the action.
