Description:
Serial #992, .45-70, 24” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some spots of freckling near the muzzle. This is a handsome carbine that has approximately 95-97% of an attractive, added blue finish that has left the “US” and “V/P/(eagle head)” military markings still crisp and clear on the breech of the barrel. The bolt has an armory bright finish with scattered spots of mild freckling along its length. The walnut stock has been sanded and refinished to excellent condition with very nice textured grain, and there are no cracks or breaks at wrist unlike most other examples. The saddle ring loop is no longer present, but a slightly crude replacement base plate is fitted instead. These U.S. military marked Hotchkiss carbines are not common, and this example rates fine, refurbished condition overall. Antique
