Antique 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine..44-40 Caliber.. Very Honest. Good Bore. Excellent Mechanics... MFG In 1889... Priced Right...
Description: SOLD...Antique 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine.. Here is a decent and very honest 73 SRC... S/N 312030 and was made in 1889.. Is in the 44-40 caliber. Has the standard 20" round barrel.. This ole SRC shows the typical wear and dings to the forearm that this model usually shows. The metal is very nice.. as is the butt stock.. The finish is an even and honest deep chocolate brown right out of the attic patina... Never cleaned on or messed with.. Just the way you love to find these as so many have been cleaned to gray... No pitting.. There are a few rack bumps and dings on the barrel in front of the rear barrel band as you can see. That is the worst of it.. Front barrel band in on backwards and I will get this turned around correctly before the sale.. The screw should enter from the left side.. Nothing has been altered at all.. The bore shows strong rifling with the normal black powder roughness but no big pits or craters.. A good bore for a SRC as most are pretty rough if not completely shot out in this condition...Still has the original dust cover that is still fairly tight and retracts with the lever throw.. All the markings are very good but show heavy dark patina build up in .44 WCF marking on the barrel, showing this ole 73 has never been cleaned on or messed with.. The mechanics are excellent.. feeds, fires and ejects just fine. No bulged cases or back out primers.. Head space is perfect.. Original front and rear sights. The rear sight is original and is the more rare and seldom encountered express sight.. I thought these were only found on the rifles but Madis says they were also installed on the carbines as well.. They were made with two and three leafs and this one is the two leaf style.. You can tell by looking that this sight has been on this gun forever.. I do have original ladder style carbine sights in stock so I can swap them if a customer request this but I would not touch it …... leave it alone.... The screw heads are all very good and sharp and do not show any abuse from tinkering.. The front band screw is burred up a bit so when I get it turned around, I will replace it with a better one if I have one.. The wood shows normal and honest wear as most of these do.. The forearm shows wear at the bottom next to the receiver from many miles over a saddle pommel or from carrying.. and worn on the left side at the front end as you can clearly see in the photos. There is also the typical grain split on the bottom that you normally will see on these well used examples as the wood is very thin in this area.. It is tight... Many bumps and nicks from use but no other cracks or splits.. This gun would have more eye appeal if you had a better forearm... The butt stock is better and fits tight all around.. Fits perfectly even with the metal at the upper and lower tangs and both side at the receiver.. Never sanded on or messed with.. It is a little shy at the butt plate at the toe as is common but no splits or cracks or missing chunks or slivers.. Shows the normal bumps and a couple small gouges from honest use but no abuse.. This is actually a pretty decent ole carbine for the money that shows honest wear and tear but never abused.. Of course there are better ones out there for a lot more money but I have seen much worse sell for more than I am asking for this one so shop around and compare, then call me... These are getting harder to find in this price range that are still all complete, honest and shootable.. A very pleasing looking 73 SRC just the way you like to find them.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.. $50 insured shipping and packed with care.. SOLD Antique: Yes |
