Antique 1873 Winchester. 38-40 Caliber. Round Barrel. Real Nice Bright Bore. Excellent Mechanics. Shoots Like A New Gun. Excellent Wood.
Description:
Antique 1873 Winchester.. Here is an “out of the attic” 1873 Winchester.. Has the standard 24” round barrel and is in the best shooting caliber 38-40.. S/N 403586. Winchester Factory Letter says gun is correct and was shipped from the warehouse in 1892 as round barrel and .38 caliber. This is a real nice and never messed with 1873. Overall condition is a smooth medium to dark plumb brown patina that has never been cleaned or messed with.. Has the original dust cover that is a little loose when in the closed position but retracts with the lever throw and still has that magnetic feel when you close it. Excellent markings. The bore is real nice and mostly bright.. Lots of shine with just some very minor spots of light roughness from black powder. Way above an average bore on these antique Winchesters.. Getting hard to find bores this good on no finish guns anymore. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds, fires and ejects perfectly with no binding or any issues.. This gun shoots as straight as the day it left the factory. Very accurate.. Both hammer notches half and full cock hold perfect and positive. The cocking lever snaps up tight against the bottom tang with excellent spring pressure.. It has the original front and rear sights. The front sight is a very rarely seen “Marbles Improved Sight” that offered a rapid elevation selection with no adjusting and was also call the “Tunnel Sight”.. It is marked “Marbles” an “No 2” It is however missing the very small bead that was usually ivory.. A small brass or ivory bead could be easily glued back in place is desired. {See close up photo.}.. The mag tube and hanger are tight with no wobbles. All of the screw heads are excellent and not burred up from tinkering. The wood is excellent.. The forearm fits tight and full with no splits or cracks.. No bad dents, dings or scratches. The butt stock fits tight and full also with no splits or cracks but has one small dent near the end of the upper tang.. Just really nice above average wood that has never been sanded or cleaned on. This gun would be priced a bit cheaper if it had the usual and average pitted bore and average well used wood but this not the case here.. Over all, this is a really nice, 100% honest, correct and never fooled with ole 1873 Winchester just like you love to find them with a great bore to boot.. Don't miss this one..
